Anyone who has been paying attention will have noticed that James, our favourite Silver Coast blogger with his own unique style, has missed a few weeks lately.
This is not through lack of interest however, but unfortunately due to James’ Doctor’s orders. Yes, sadly after a brief career James has been forced to retire from blogging due to ill health, although if we try really hard to persuade him he just might put in an occasional appearance.
All of us at Silver Coast News would like to thank James for his input over the last few weeks and wish him a relaxing and happy retirement.
Sadly, James’ ill health has also led to him having to sell his business and so from last Friday Union Jacs, the best known British Food Shop on the Silver Coast has come under new management.
The new owners may well be known to any of you who live here and enjoy a good curry. Jin Austin has now assumed the role of ‘Arkwright’ (sorry, going back a bit there!) and can be found manning the till from Wednesday until Saturday lunchtime every week. Should you happen to call in on a Monday or Tuesday however, you will be served by Mariana. So it is generally business as usual down at Union Jacs – check out our business directory for full details.
Here at Bay Tree Farm things are ticking along nicely, all that is except for one piece of sad news. Poor Tiger, our beautiful cat died last week after eating something he shouldn’t have. The vet thought it was some sort of food poisoning and we tried everything we could to save him.
Jake the dog and Tiger’s best friend Florence the sheep are really missing him, as are we all, so in an effort to help us get over our loss I decided that we really should get a kitten as soon as possible.
I thought it would be easy as there always seem to be kittens looking for homes around here, but just as we really want to find a suitable young male there is nothing at all on offer. Hmmm, typical!
So after asking everyone we knew and having no luck we gave up on the weekend and decided that we would have to postpone our search until the following weekend.
But as luck would have it driving to work on Monday morning I spotted a tiny white kitten just sitting in the road in the middle of nowhere. She didn’t even attempt to move when we stopped the car so I picked her up and kept her with me all day in the Prestige Portugal Property office where I work in Sao Martinho do Porto – it’s a very understanding company!
So now Prudence the kitten is the newest member of our family and settling in very well. She was extremely under nourished and so tiny, but it appears that lack of food was her only problem and so we are doing our best to fatten her up.
Prudence and I really bonded that first day in the office, she just wanted to be cuddled all day long and so we really got to know each other.
No one can replace our beautiful Tiger cat but Prudence is really making her mark and doing her best to fill a gap.
All the other animals are doing really well, Florence the sheep is getting nice and round with her baby due in August, and the two piglets Peter and Clover are really filling out and have great characters.
I’ll keep you posted with any more news as and when it happens, but in the meantime as a non-football fan I am finding it hard to ignore the world cup so all I can say is ‘Come on England!’
