Normal life has resumed here on the farm, the visitors have gone, the rain has returned and the pig needs mucking out.

I know it is only April but it really seemed as though summer had arrived, but the last few days have been rather dismal to say the least. Between the showers only my unswervingly British brother-in-law could be found sitting on the ‘South Terrace’ with only an old copy of the Sunday Times and goose bumps for company. The weather put a bit of a damper on the final part of my sister and family’s visit, but generally everything went well.

The competition between the children ended with great success – we made opulent medals and gave one cent for every point awarded, the first and second places being only one point apart. The Boy King, was more than happy to come third as he got his medal first and a shiny euro to feed into his piggy bank (well, he is only four).

So now back to real life. We were planning to have roast turkey for lunch on Sunday, but, once again, Pew Pew has a reprieve. CG and I discussed his demise and realised that there was no way we could do the deed with the Boy King present, so the date is set for Friday next week while our son is at school, ready for a roast turkey lunch on the following Sunday. There, I have committed it to print, so let’s see what excuse we can come up with before then. We still haven’t managed to kill any of our animals, but if we are going to call ourselves farmers then the day is going to have to come soon.

We have had a bit of luck this week. As anyone who lives here in Portugal knows, elections are looming, and the government are trying their hardest to ingratiate themselves to the voting public. This, according to our neighbours, is the reason that the council have decided to tarmac our lane and, at the instruction of the president, include our driveway.

Our house instantly looks fantastic, what a bonus!

We went for a family outing to the museum in Lourinhá on Friday last week, well, things felt a bit flat after our visitors had left. It was great, really well worth a visit. Have a look at the entry in the SilverCoastNews Business Directory and my added comment for details.
